EU Leadership on State Visit to India Strengthens Strategic Partnership

His Excellency Mr. António Luís Santos da Costa, President of the European Council, and Her Excellency Ms. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, paid a high-level state visit to India, underscoring the growing strategic importance of India–European Union relations. The visit marked a significant diplomatic engagement aimed at deepening cooperation across a wide range of sectors amid evolving global challenges.

During the visit, the EU leaders held detailed discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. The talks focused on enhancing the India–EU Strategic Partnership, with emphasis on trade and investment, digital and critical technologies, clean energy and climate action, supply chain resilience, and global and regional security issues. Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to democratic values, multilateralism, and a rules-based international order.

A joint statement was released following the meeting, outlining common priorities and a forward-looking roadmap for collaboration. The leaders also witnessed the signing of key agreements and cooperation frameworks, aimed at strengthening economic ties, accelerating green and digital transitions, and promoting people-to-people exchanges. The agreements are expected to boost bilateral trade, support innovation, and enhance cooperation in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, sustainable development, and clean technologies.

The visit highlighted the EU’s recognition of India as a crucial global partner and reinforced India’s role as a major stakeholder in addressing global challenges. Officials on both sides described the engagement as productive and future-oriented, noting that the outcomes would contribute to long-term stability, prosperity, and strategic convergence between India and the European Union.
