Amid growing instability in West Asia, Narendra Modi held a phone conversation with Masoud Pezeshkian, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding critical infrastructure and ensuring uninterrupted maritime trade. The discussion took place against the backdrop of escalating tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, which have raised serious concerns over regional security and global economic stability.

During the exchange, Modi strongly condemned recent attacks targeting key infrastructure, stating that such incidents pose a significant threat not only to regional peace but also to international supply chains. He underscored the need for de-escalation and called for collective efforts to maintain stability in the region.

A central focus of the conversation was the security of vital shipping corridors, particularly the Strait of Hormuz. The narrow passage is one of the world’s most critical energy routes, facilitating the movement of a substantial portion of global oil and gas supplies. Ongoing hostilities have heightened risks for commercial vessels, prompting concerns about potential disruptions to trade flows.

Modi stressed that the free and secure movement of shipping lanes is essential for sustaining global commerce and energy security. He highlighted that countries dependent on energy imports, including India, are especially vulnerable to any disruptions in this strategic waterway. His remarks reflect India’s broader diplomatic stance of advocating for stability while protecting its economic interests.

The leaders also exchanged greetings on the occasions of Nowruz and Eid, expressing mutual hopes for peace and prosperity. Modi acknowledged Iran’s role in ensuring the safety of Indian nationals residing in the country during a period of heightened uncertainty. The conversation underscores ongoing diplomatic engagement between New Delhi and Tehran as both sides navigate complex geopolitical challenges. It also signals India’s continued emphasis on dialogue and cooperation to address emerging security concerns while maintaining the smooth functioning of global trade routes.
