Mysterious Death of IIT Kharagpur Student Raises Severe Questions Murder or Suicide…..? OR Campus Safety ?

Kharagpur, West Midnapore : A 21-year-old student of IIT Kharagpur was found dead on the campus on Saturday morning, raising fresh concerns over student safety and mental well-being at the institute. The deceased was identified as Jaiveer Singh Dariya, a third-year student of Manufacturing Engineering and a resident of Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
According to police sources, security personnel on the IIT Kharagpur campus first noticed the student lying injured in front of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hall. They immediately informed the institute authorities, who later alerted the police. Officers from the Hijli outpost reached the spot and recovered the body.

Jaiveer was taken to B.C. Roy Hospital on the campus, where doctors declared him dead. Police said the exact cause of death is still not clear. In the initial stage of the investigation, officials suspect that he may have fallen from the roof of the seventh floor. However, the police said the actual cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report is received. So far, IIT Kharagpur authorities have not issued any official statement on the incident.
The latest death has once again drawn attention to a troubling pattern on the IIT Kharagpur campus. Reports suggest that in the last 16 months, eight students and researchers have died in separate incidents linked to the campus, with seven of those deaths occurring within the campus premises. In several earlier cases, the bodies of students were reportedly found hanging.

The repeated deaths have caused anxiety among students, parents, and the wider academic community. Questions are now being raised about the pressure faced by students, the effectiveness of support systems, and the overall safety environment on campus.
The police suspect that the real cause of death will be known only after the autopsy report comes.
