Report Claims UAE Secretly Carried Out Strikes on Iran During West Asia Conflict

A fresh report has claimed that the United Arab Emirates secretly participated in military operations against Iran during the recent conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel, signalling a possible escalation in regional tensions and a shift in Gulf geopolitical dynamics.

According to reports citing findings published by The Wall Street Journal, the UAE allegedly conducted covert attacks on Iranian targets during the height of the crisis. One of the reported targets was said to be an oil refinery located on Iran’s Lavan Island in the Persian Gulf. The report suggested the strikes were part of a broader regional response to repeated Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting Gulf countries and American allies in the region.

The UAE government has not officially confirmed or denied the allegations. However, the claims have attracted significant international attention because Abu Dhabi had publicly maintained a relatively cautious diplomatic stance throughout the conflict. If verified, the alleged operation would represent one of the most direct military confrontations between the UAE and Iran in recent years.

Political analysts believe the reported strikes may reflect growing frustration among Gulf states over rising security threats linked to Iran’s regional military activities. During the conflict, several countries in the Gulf reportedly faced drone and missile threats, leading to increased defence coordination with the United States and Israel.

The report also highlighted expanding military cooperation between the UAE and Israel following the normalisation of diplomatic ties under the Abraham Accords signed in 2020. Israeli defence systems and military coordination reportedly played an important role in helping Gulf allies counter aerial threats during the conflict.

Regional observers noted that Gulf nations have traditionally avoided direct military engagement with Iran despite long-standing disagreements over regional influence, maritime security and Tehran’s missile programme. However, recent developments suggest that some countries in the region may now be willing to adopt a more assertive security approach in response to escalating tensions.

The broader conflict began after coordinated American and Israeli military strikes targeted Iranian strategic and military installations earlier this year. Iran later responded with missile and drone attacks directed at Israeli territory, American military assets and allied Gulf countries. The developments triggered fears of a wider regional confrontation and raised concerns over global energy security and maritime trade routes.

International markets closely monitored the situation due to the strategic importance of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, through which a large portion of the world’s oil supply passes. Any escalation in the region is considered capable of affecting global oil prices and international shipping.

Despite the seriousness of the allegations, independent confirmation of the UAE’s alleged military operations inside Iran has remained limited. Several international media organisations noted that the claims could not be independently verified.

Diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in West Asia are continuing amid fears that further military escalation could destabilise the region. Analysts warned that reports of covert cooperation between Gulf states, Israel and the United States could complicate ongoing negotiations and deepen geopolitical divisions across the Middle East.
