Indian cricket star Virat Kohli has hinted that he could continue playing until the 2027 ODI World Cup, while making it clear that he would only remain in an environment where his contribution and value are respected. Speaking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s official podcast, the former India captain reflected on his future in international cricket and his motivation to continue competing at the highest level.

Kohli, who retired from T20 Internationals in 2024 and stepped away from Test cricket in 2025, now represents India only in the ODI format. Despite increasing speculation over his long-term future due to age and a reduced international schedule, the 37-year-old said he still maintains the discipline and fitness required for top-level cricket.

During the discussion, Kohli explained that his commitment to preparation and physical fitness remains unchanged. He stated that as long as he feels capable of contributing to the team and the management values his presence, he will continue playing. Referring to questions about the 2027 World Cup, Kohli suggested that representing India in another global tournament remains a possibility if he continues in the format.

However, the batting star also stressed the importance of mutual trust and respect within a team setup. He remarked that he would not want to stay in an environment where he constantly has to prove his worth despite giving his best efforts. Kohli also reflected on his recent return to domestic cricket during the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he represented Delhi and scored a century. He said he played purely out of his love for cricket and not to silence critics.
