Senior security officials and National Security Advisers from BRICS member nations gathered in New Delhi on Monday for a high-level meeting focused on addressing emerging global security challenges and strengthening cooperation among the bloc’s expanding membership.

The two-day conference, chaired by India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, brings together representatives from the 11 BRICS countries at a time when the international security landscape is undergoing rapid transformation. The discussions are expected to cover a wide range of non-traditional security concerns, including cyber threats, terrorism, artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure protection, information warfare, and transnational crime.

The meeting is being held under India’s BRICS Chairship for 2026 and forms part of the country’s broader efforts to enhance cooperation among member states on strategic and security matters. Officials said the agenda reflects growing recognition that modern security threats increasingly extend beyond conventional military challenges and require coordinated international responses.

Delegations attending the gathering include senior representatives from Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Indonesia. Several prominent security and diplomatic figures are participating in the discussions, including Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and senior Russian security officials.

A significant focus of the meeting is expected to be the strengthening of counter-terrorism cooperation. Participants are reviewing recommendations from BRICS working groups on terrorism and information security while exploring ways to improve intelligence sharing and coordination against evolving threats. The protection of critical digital infrastructure and the risks associated with emerging technologies are also high on the agenda.

The gathering comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions in several regions, particularly developments in West Asia. Recent diplomatic and security challenges involving Iran and other regional actors are expected to feature prominently in consultations on regional stability and conflict prevention.

Analysts view the meeting as an important opportunity for BRICS nations to demonstrate unity on key international security issues despite differing national interests and strategic priorities. The discussions are also expected to contribute to preparations for future BRICS summits and ministerial engagements later this year. India’s BRICS presidency is being conducted under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.” Officials believe the New Delhi meeting will help shape a collective approach to emerging security concerns while reinforcing the bloc’s role in addressing complex global challenges through dialogue and cooperation.
