Tata Motors to Raise Car Prices by Up to ₹25,000 From September

News Mania Desk/ Piyal Chatterjee/ 21st August 2026

Tata Motors has announced a price increase across its passenger vehicle range, with the revised prices set to take effect from September 1, 2026. The company said the adjustment has become necessary because of continued increases in input and manufacturing costs. The upcoming price revision will cover both Tata Motors’ internal-combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and electric vehicles. Customers purchasing Tata cars from September will therefore have to pay more, although the exact increase will vary depending on the model and variant. The company has indicated that the hike will be up to ₹25,000.

The announcement comes at a time when automobile manufacturers are facing pressure from rising production expenses. Higher costs associated with raw materials, components and other inputs have contributed to an increase in the overall cost of manufacturing vehicles. Automakers have increasingly been passing a portion of these additional expenses on to customers through periodic price revisions.

Tata Motors has not announced a uniform increase across its entire portfolio. Instead, the revised prices are expected to differ from one model to another. This means the impact on individual buyers will depend on the vehicle and variant they choose.

The price increase will affect Tata’s growing electric vehicle portfolio as well as its conventional petrol and diesel-powered models. The company has expanded its EV presence in recent years and offers electric versions across multiple segments. The inclusion of EVs in the latest price revision reflects the broader cost pressures affecting the company’s passenger vehicle business.

Tata Motors’ announcement also comes ahead of the important festive period, traditionally one of the busiest sales seasons for the Indian automobile industry. Manufacturers generally witness increased customer enquiries and vehicle purchases during this period as consumers consider making major purchases around festivals.

For customers who are already planning to purchase a Tata vehicle, the September 1 deadline could therefore become an important consideration. Buyers completing purchases before the revised prices take effect may be able to avoid the additional cost, depending on the applicable pricing and delivery terms. Tata Motors has not indicated any change in its product strategy as a result of the price revision. The company is expected to continue focusing on both its traditional passenger vehicle lineup and its electric vehicle business.
