Howrah, West Bengal:* Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari welcomed the Union Home Ministry’s decision to empower District Collectors in specified states to directly process applications and issue CAA citizenship certificates.

He said the move would help Hindu refugees receive their citizenship certificates faster, enabling eligible beneficiaries to access rights and facilities available to Indian citizens, including inclusion in electoral rolls subject to the applicable legal process.

Adhikari also spoke about the implementation of the West Bengal Public Safety and Control of Anti-social Activities Act, stating that rules for the applicable portion of the legislation have been issued and enforcement has begun.

He further said that in cases of vandalism, authorities would seek recovery of three times the cost of damages, along with interest, as provided under the state’s legal framework.

Citizenship, public safety and accountability remain key issues shaping governance in Bengal.
