Prabath Jayasuriya was punished for violating the ICC Code of Conduct.

The third player to get a sanction for an incident during the second ICC World Test Championship match against India is Sri Lankan spinner Prabath Jayasuriya. Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match,” was found to have been violated by Jayasuriya.

One penalty point was added to his disciplinary record, and he received an official reprimand. Jayasuriya had not committed any crimes in the previous twenty-four months. On Monday, August 24, Jayasuriya whacked the boundary wedges with his bat on his way back to the pavilion after being dismissed on the day’s last delivery. Jayasuriya acknowledged the infraction and agreed to the penalty that match referee Andy Pycroft had suggested.

The accusation was levelled by third umpire Rod Tucker, fourth umpire Prageeth Rambukwella, and on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid.

After Yashasvi Jaiswal and Asitha Fernando received 25% match-fee penalties for their roles in the incident on the first day of the game, Jayasuriya is now the third player from the Colombo Test to be sanctioned by the ICC. They each received a penalty point for their on-field altercation.

After Fernando removed Jaiswal in the 17th over of India’s opening innings, the incident took place. After the Indian batter approached Fernando and they spoke, Fernando turned to face Jaiswal. Jaiswal leaned in in return, bringing their heads together.
