Two Crew Members Rescued After MV Ocean Winner Goes Missing in Bay of Bengal

Paradip: An extensive search and rescue operation is underway after Panama-flagged bulk carrier MV Ocean Winner, carrying 71,000 metric tonnes of iron ore, lost communication in the Bay of Bengal, around 230 nautical miles southeast of Paradip. The 225-metre vessel was en route from Paradip to Singapore with 24 crew members—20 Chinese, three Myanmarese and one Bangladeshi.The Indian Coast Guard, in coordination with the Indian Navy and other agencies, launched a sea-air search operation. An Indian Navy P-8I aircraft located three drifting life rafts. Merchant vessel MT Aispos rescued two Chinese crew members, Pan Tonglai and Chen Jianhe, on August 22. They were safely brought to Paradip aboard ICGS Varad on August 27. Search operations continue for the remaining crew.
