News Mania Desk/ Piyal Chatterjee/ 5th September 2026

The Movie has made a strong start at the domestic box office, recording an estimated net collection of around ₹24.75 crore on its opening day, according to early industry figures.

The film, which brings the popular Mirzapur franchise to the big screen, was released on September 4 and attracted a significant audience across theatres. Its opening performance has placed it among the better-performing Hindi films of 2026 so far.

Starring Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu and other members of the franchise’s established cast, the movie has benefited from the popularity of the original web series. The transition from the streaming platform to cinemas generated considerable interest among existing fans, while the film’s theatrical release also drew attention from audiencea unfamiliar with the series.

With its first-day earnings, Mirzapur: The Movie has moved ahead of Awarapan 2 in the list of Hindi films with the biggest opening-day collections this year. It has reportedly secured the fourth position among Hindi releases in terms of first-day domestic earnings in 2026.

The film’s opening has also highlighted the continued box-office appeal of established franchises. The Mirzapur series has developed a large following since its debut, with its characters and crime-drama storyline becoming widely recognised among Indian audiences.

Pankaj Tripathi, who plays the influential and feared character Kaleen Bhaiya, remains one of the central attractions of the franchise. His presence, along with the return of several familiar actors, has contributed to expectations surrounding the theatrical release. The opening-day performance will now be closely watched over the weekend, when audience response and occupancy levels are expected to determine whether the film can maintain its momentum.

A strong weekend could significantly increase its first-weekend total and strengthen its position among the year’s leading Hindi releases. However, sustained box-office performance will depend on word-of-mouth response and how effectively the film attracts audiences beyond the established Mirzapur fan base.
