Vijay’s UK Visit Draws Opposition Fire Over ‘Pleasure Trip’ Remark

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s six-day UK visit has triggered a political controversy, with BJP state president Nainar Nagendran describing it as a “pleasure tour” and questioning the government’s investment claims. AIADMK has also raised questions over the need for the overseas trip.
The Tamil Nadu government, however, said the visit secured investment commitments and proposals worth ₹15,300 crore, potentially generating more than 10,000 jobs. The package includes a proposed ₹11,000-crore Motherson investment, ₹1,000 crore from EY and other agreements.
The government said Vijay’s London engagements focused on advanced manufacturing, technology, investment and motorsport development. Opposition parties have questioned whether some announcements represent genuinely new investments or expansions by companies already operating in Tamil Nadu.
