Nifty Nears 52-Week Low as Market Faces Pressure From Oil Prices, FII Outflows

The Nifty 50 came close to hitting a fresh 52-week low as Indian equities remained under pressure amid concerns over rising crude oil prices, continued foreign investor selling and weak global market signals. The benchmark index has also faced additional pressure following the Reserve Bank of India’s recent monetary policy decision.
The Nifty slipped below the 22,200 level during trading, leaving it around 100 points away from its previous 52-week low. The decline has highlighted the continuing weakness in the domestic equity market after the index moved significantly lower from its record high earlier this year.
Technical analysts cited in the report identified the 22,190-22,210 range as an important support zone for the index. A sustained break below this area could increase selling pressure and potentially take the Nifty towards the 22,040 level. On the other hand, a recovery above the 22,500-22,520 range could provide some relief to the market. A sustained move above that zone may open the possibility of the index advancing towards 22,670, according to technical assessments.
The Nifty has declined by around 16% from its January record high of 26,373, reflecting the scale of the correction witnessed in the market. Investors have remained cautious as several factors continue to weigh on sentiment. Rising crude oil prices are a particular concern for India because the country relies heavily on imports to meet its energy requirements. Higher oil prices can increase import costs and put pressure on inflation as well as the country’s external balances.
Foreign institutional investor (FII) selling has added to the pressure, with sustained overseas outflows contributing to weakness in Indian equities. Global market uncertainty has also made investors more cautious. Market participants are now closely watching the key technical support levels, crude oil prices, foreign fund flows and global cues for signs of a possible recovery or further decline in the benchmark index.
