Australia defeated South Africa by 214 runs in the first Test at Kingsmead in Durban, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The visitors produced a commanding performance with both bat and ball, with Matt Renshaw starring with the bat and Josh Hazlewood leading the bowling attack.

Renshaw was Australia’s standout performer, scoring 190 runs in the first innings and following it up with 82 in the second. His contributions helped Australia recover from a difficult position and establish a substantial lead over the hosts.

Australia were under pressure after slipping to 124 for six in their first innings. However, Renshaw helped stabilise the innings and guided the team to 390 all out. South Africa responded with 284, leaving Australia with a valuable advantage heading into their second innings.

The visitors strengthened their position by declaring at 316 for six in their second innings, setting South Africa a challenging target of 421 runs to win. Renshaw again played a crucial role, while Australia’s batting unit ensured the hosts faced a demanding fourth-innings chase.

South Africa struggled to build sustained partnerships during their pursuit of the target. Aiden Markram offered resistance with a patient 75 off 237 balls, but the home side could not overcome Australia’s disciplined bowling attack. Hazlewood proved decisive on the final day, claiming six wickets for 49 runs to bowl South Africa out for 206. His spell dismantled the hosts’ batting order and sealed a convincing victory for Australia.
