Big Relief for Abhishek Banerjee : Calcutta High Court Halts Demolition of Abhishek Banerjee Amtala MP Office

Kolkata : The Calcutta High Court on Sunday ordered an immediate stop to further demolition work of Abhishek Banerjee MP office, in Amtala, South 24 Parganas. The court directed all parties to maintain the current status quo until the next hearing.

The interim relief came hours after Banerjee’s company, Leaps and Bounds, filed an urgent plea seeking protection against the bulldozer action that had already razed the office premises despite claims of valid land ownership documents.

The matter was taken up urgently by Justice Raja Basu Chowdhury following the demolition, which led to a sharp political confrontation. The Trinamool Congress alleged the demolition was carried out unlawfully in the presence of BJP leaders, even though the dispute over the property remains under judicial review.

Banerjee accused the West Bengal Police of conducting the demolition in violation of court orders and claimed that valuables, including laptops, printers, documents, and furniture, were removed during the operation. He described the act as “theft in uniform” supported by videos showing police personnel and BJP supporters carrying away office equipment.

“The lawlessness in Bengal is on full display,” Banerjee wrote on social media platform X. “Despite Supreme Court and High Court rulings holding bulldozer demolitions unconstitutional, my Lok Sabha constituency office at Amtala was demolished.”

The recent petition is part of ongoing legal proceedings after earlier complaints by the Trinamool Congress about attacks on party offices following Assembly elections. The previous matter was listed before another bench but was not heard.

Sunday High Court order temporarily protects the MP’s office and prevents any further demolition and ordered maintenance of status quo until a more detailed hearing takes place, offering temporary respite in a politically charged dispute.
