PM Modi Tells IIT Delhi Graduates to Stay Adaptable, Embrace AI and Think Beyond the Ordinary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday urged graduates of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi to remain adaptable, keep learning and use technology to address some of the country’s most pressing challenges. Addressing the institute’s 57th convocation, Modi highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies while encouraging students to combine technical expertise with a broader sense of social responsibility.

The Prime Minister said the graduating students belonged to a generation growing up amid rapid technological and social change. Referring to Gen Z, he said young people today were comfortable with new technologies and were capable of learning and adapting quickly. However, he stressed that formal education should not mark the end of learning, particularly at a time when technological advances are reshaping industries and workplaces.

Modi encouraged the graduates to remain curious and continuously upgrade their skills. He said the ability to learn, unlearn and relearn would become increasingly important as artificial intelligence, automation and other technologies transform professional life.

During the event, the Prime Minister also highlighted India’s growing capabilities in advanced computing and research. He inaugurated the Param Pragya high-performance computing facility at IIT Delhi, describing it as an important step towards strengthening the country’s research infrastructure. The facility is expected to support work in areas requiring substantial computing power and contribute to research and innovation.

The convocation saw more than 3,000 students receive degrees, including 587 PhD scholars. Modi congratulated the graduating students and acknowledged the contribution of their families and teachers in helping them reach the milestone.

He also called upon the graduates to look beyond individual career ambitions and consider how their knowledge could contribute to national development. Innovation, he said, should be directed towards solving real-world problems and improving the lives of ordinary people. The Prime Minister further emphasised the importance of taking risks, experimenting with new ideas and maintaining confidence in India’s potential. He urged the students to view their IIT education not simply as a qualification but as a foundation for creating solutions with a wider impact.
