West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari Orders Action Against Derogatory Social Media Posts on Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday directed strict action against social media users making unsavoury and derogatory remarks about Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

In a stern statement, the Chief Minister said, “Those making derogatory remarks against Netaji on social media should immediately delete such posts and issue an apology.” He further instructed police authorities to arrest individuals responsible for such comments, emphasizing that the law will apply equally to all, including MLAs, MPs, and government officials.

This move follows recent controversial remarks by BJP MP Nagendranath Roy, also known as Ananta Maharaj, who described Netaji as a “war criminal” and questioned his leadership and the role of the Azad Hind Fauj during India’s freedom struggle.

Apart from law enforcement directives, CM Adhikari has also ordered all MLAs in the state to establish public service centres in their constituencies. These centres will be named “Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Seva Kendra” and must display a portrait of Bose dressed in traditional dhoti and kurta, provided by the state Information and Cultural Affairs Department.

To support these initiatives, the state government will provide financial assistance of Rs 30,000 per month to run each centre, subject to certain conditions. According to the Chief Minister, these centres aim to offer services to all residents of the constituency, regardless of their political affiliations.

“Earlier, MLAs used to work from government offices. Now, almost every MLA has their own office. Every constituency must have a service centre run by the MLA. Through these centres, they will provide services to the people of their areas. Everyone will receive services, whether they voted for them or not,” CM Adhikari stated.

The Chief Minister’s actions reflect a strong commitment to preserving the respect and legacy of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose while enhancing local governance and public service delivery across West Bengal.
