New Delhi: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday criticised Opposition leaders and former officials questioning India’s reported 7.8% GDP growth for the April-June 2026 quarter. Speaking at the annual session of the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA) in Delhi, Goyal said critics were comparing figures from the old and new GDP series despite a change in the base year. “Ministers do not manufacture this data,” he said, accusing critics of misleading the public by failing to “compare apples with apples”. Goyal also described those challenging the figures as “the only jobless people left”, while defending the credibility of India’s latest economic growth numbers.
