KOLKATA, INDIA — AE Block Samaj Kalyan Sangha successfully hosted its highly anticipated annual event, Chokkhu Daan Utsav, celebrating the auspicious occasion of Mahalaya and ushering in the grand festivities of Durga Puja. Held at the AE Block Part 2 Puja Pandal in Salt Lake, Kolkata, the ceremony drew immense public enthusiasm, media presence, content creators and local dignitaries.

The ceremony reached its peak with the symbolic ritual of Chokkhu Daan—the painting of the eyes of Goddess Durga—crafted by renowned idol artist Saikat Basu. This pivotal moment marked the arrival of Devi Paksha and the beginning of the festive celebrations.

A major highlight of the event was the grand unveiling of this year’s Puja theme, “Aalo – 360° Glow Forest,” conceptualised and executed by the acclaimed creative duo Shibaji Pal and Bablu Singha. The immersive theme mesmerised visitors with its luminous forest-inspired aesthetic, intricate architectural details, glowing lotus motifs and dynamic lighting design, transporting visitors into a radiant world of light and hope.

Acclaimed Bengali actress Parno Mittra graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour, participating in the ceremonial lamp lighting alongside key organisers, committee officials and distinguished guests. Her presence added to the occasion’s cultural significance and festive spirit.

Speaking at the event, Suraj Chokhani, Chairman, and Rudradeep Banerjee, Convenor, expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the community and media partners for making the inauguration a success.

“We wanted to offer Kolkata an unforgettable visual and spiritual experience this year,” said Manimoy Saha, President. “The ‘Aalo’ theme represents the triumph of light over darkness, and we invite devotees and visitors from across the city to experience our 360° Glow Forest throughout the festive week.”

The leadership team, including Tapas Kanti Sengupta, Secretary, and Treasurers Asim Basu and Sanjukta Majumdar, extended festive greetings and acknowledged the efforts of committee members, artists and artisans who brought the vision to life.

With its immersive visual experience and cultural significance, AE Block Samaj Kalyan Sangha’s Durga Puja promises to be one of Salt Lake’s notable festive attractions. The pandal is now open to the general public.
