1 dead after 11 coaches of Guwahati-bound express train derail in Odisha

An official reported that one individual lost their life and eight others sustained injuries when an express train heading to Guwahati derailed in Cuttack, Odisha, on Sunday. At the time of the incident, the Bengaluru-Kamakhya Express was en route to Kamakhya station in Guwahati, Assam from Bengaluru.
District Magistrate Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde verified the death and injury numbers and stated that the train went off the tracks close to Nergundi railway station in Cuttack.
Rescue and aid teams hurried to the location of the accident. Rescue and recovery operations on the impacted area were underway at a rapid pace, overseen by senior railway officials. As per CPRO Mishra, a relief train was being organized to transport the stranded passengers to their respective destinations.
Three trains were redirected due to the derailment. Officials stated that the trains involved are Dhauli Express, Neelachal Express, and Purulia Express. According to news agency PTI, Sudhansu Sarangi, the Director-General of Odisha Fire Service, mentioned that NDRF and Odisha Fire Service personnel were aiding the Railways in the rescue effort.
The Railways has launched two helpline numbers – 8455885999 (Bhubaneswar) and 8991124238 (Cuttack) – for help. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reported that two individuals on the Bengaluru-Kamakhya Express sustained injuries but are now safe. He mentioned that his office was coordinating with the Odisha government and the Railways regarding the incident.
