On Friday, at least five alleged Pakistani militants died in a landmine blast near the Line of Control in the Battal area of the Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to official sources, the incident occurred when a militant, who was reportedly crossing from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir to India, inadvertently triggered a landmine that had been placed on the Indian side.
This set off an explosion, resulting in the deaths of the infiltrators, sources reported, noting that the militants were also in possession of an IED, which detonated as well.
Officials stated that additional information is pending. Sources indicated that the forward regions on the Indian side are equipped with landmines in several locations as part of an anti-infiltration barrier system, particularly along recognized infiltration paths. An official explained that sometimes the rain can cause these landmines to be carried away.
Two weeks ago, an Army personnel sustained injuries due to a landmine blast close to the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. Officials had stated that the soldier belonged to a patrol team in the Krishna Ghati area.
