Two women from Nigeria have been apprehended with more than 37 kg of narcotics worth Rs 75 crore at the Bengaluru airport, marking the largest drug seizure in Karnataka, according to police on Sunday.
The two women, named Bamba Fanta, 31, and Abigail Adonis, 30, were apprehended upon their arrival at the airport from Delhi while transporting MDMA in their luggage, reported Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal to the media.
They were also found with four mobile phones, passports, and cash amounting to Rs 18,000.
They lived in Delhi and participated in the trafficking of MDMA throughout India. According to the officer, they utilized air routes for drug transport and completed approximately 37 trips to Mumbai and 22 to Bengaluru over the last year.
Fanta came to India in 2020 with a business visa, whereas Adonis has been residing in the country since 2016. Mr. Agrawal stated that the two women had been part of the drug cartel for the last 1-2 years. He added that the operation originated from a previous arrest six months earlier, when police apprehended a man, Haider Ali, in Mangaluru with 15 grams of MDMA.
Subsequent inquiries subsequently directed law enforcement to a Nigerian individual named Peter, who was apprehended in Bengaluru with 6 kg of MDMA, he stated.
