Advice On Travel For Indian Citizens Visiting Malaysia

The High Commission of India in Kuala Lumpur has observed an increase in the number of instances where Indian nationals have been denied entry to Malaysia by the Malaysian Immigration authorities at the international airport of entry due to receiving a “Not to land” (NTL) directive, according to the Indian Embassy’s advisory. This is because travel between India and Malaysia has been fully restored, and airline operations have increased.

As a result, entry into the nation has been refused by these people.

In each of these instances, travelers from India who were refused entrance were in possession of a valid social visit permit or electronic social visit card (equivalent to a Tourist Visa). Indian travelers may be denied entrance to Malaysia for the following reasons by Malaysian immigration officials:

  • not having enough money to cover the cost of the trip.
  • not having confirmed hotel arrangements or return tickets.
  • obtaining false hotel and/or return tickets.
  • Uncertain about the trip’s motivation.
  • unable to adequately address the immigration officer’s inquiries.

The embassy added that travelers can ask immigration officials in Malaysia to provide a translator who is fluent in the language in question if they are unable to grasp the questions they are being asked.

Please take note that if a traveler is denied entrance into Malaysia and receives an NTL, they are held in a designated area of the airport until their flight is rerouted by the appropriate airline back to their point of origin in India.

The passenger may experience some difficulties while being held at the airport during this period.

The Indian High Commission strongly recommends all Indian nationals planning to visit Malaysia completely abide by Malaysian rules and regulations and meet all entrance requirements established by the Malaysian government in order to prevent any problems with admission into the country.

These prerequisites can include:

  • having enough money.
  • confirmation of the accommodations.
  • a valid round-trip airline ticket.
  • a distinct reason for the trip
