International Conference Report: Emerging Trends in AI for Industry and Education

Xavier Institute of Management & Entrepreneurship (XIME), in collaboration with The University of Adelaide, hosted a groundbreaking International Conference on Emerging Trends in AI for Industry and Education: Opportunities and Challenges on February 22nd and 23rd, 2024. The event attracted a diverse audience of over 200 delegates, representing various industries and academia, including distinguished international participants and speakers.

Conference Highlights:

The conference commenced with an invigorating opening address by Prof. J Philip, Founder and Chairman of XIME Bangalore, which effectively set the tone for the event’s significance. Subsequently, Prof. Noel Lindsay, Pro Vice-Chancellor of The University of Adelaide, delivered an illuminating inaugural address, shedding light on the overarching theme of the conference. The keynote address, delivered by Dr. Sreerama Murthy, CEO of Quadratyx and Chief AI Mentor of Flatworld Group, provided profound insights into the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence.

Prof. TG Sitharam, Chairman of AICTE, graced the occasion with his enlightening address. Prof. Sitharam emphasized the pivotal role of AI in shaping the future of industries and education, drawing from his extensive experience in educational governance and policy-making.

Dr. S Somanath, Chairman of ISRO & Secretary, Department of Space, provided unique insights into the intersection of AI with cutting-edge scientific research. Renowned for his leadership in space technology and exploration, Dr. Somanath’s address enriched the conference by offering diverse perspectives on AI’s transformative potential across various sectors. He emphasized how AI is transforming rocket development, space manufacturing, human space flights, space communications, imaging, and the future of space work. Their presence catalyzed stimulating discussions and fostered collaboration among participants, amplifying the impact of the event.

The conference featured three thought-provoking plenary sessions, each exploring crucial facets of AI:

  1. Emerging Trends in AI for Industry: Opportunities and Challenges – Moderated by Prof. Rajeev Kamineni, Academic Director at Adelaide Business School, University of Adelaide, this session facilitated lively discussions among eminent industry leaders. Notable panelists included Dr. Riturajkumar from the Defense R&D Organization, Prof. Ambika Zutshi from South Queensland University, Australia, and Mr. L Subrahmanyam from Siemens Healthineers.
  2. Making Students of Higher Education AI-ready – Under the moderation of Prof. Anil J Philip, President of XIME Society and former VP of Vodafone, explored strategies for preparing students for the AI-driven future. Insights were shared by Prof. Rajeev Kamineni, Dr. Magiswary Dorasamy from Multimedia University, Malaysia, and Prof. Stephen Zhang from Adelaide Business School.
  3. Educators’ Challenges to Meet Industry Expectations on AI in Higher Education – Moderated by Prof. N Viswanadham, Professor Emeritus at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, this session addressed the alignment between academia and industry in AI education. Contributions came from Prof. Maniam Kaliannan from Nottingham University, Malaysia, Prof. P Sreenivasa Kumar from IIT Madras, and Dr. Galyna Kogut from NIU Singapore.

Research Presentations and Awards:
