Sachin joins US cricket league ownership group

News Mania / Piyal Chatterjee / 15th October 2024

In an effort to promote cricket in the United States, Sachin Tendulkar has joined the ownership group of the National Cricket League (NCL) in the United States. This is just months after the nation pulled off a number of upsets while co-hosting the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup. The US leg of the competition drew an estimated 1.9 lakh spectators. Tendulkar’s participation is anticipated to increase the game’s legitimacy in the nation in the same manner that basketball great Michael Jordan improved the NBA’s reputation outside.

Experts predict that the team’s impressive performance at the ICC event and the NCL’s collaboration will draw investments and support infrastructure development. According to Statista, the US cricket market is expected to generate $87.49 million by 2024. By 2029, the market is anticipated to reach $96.48 million, with revenue growing at a projected annual growth rate (CAGR 2024-29) of 1.98%.

More and more people believe that the US is a great place for cricket to grow. The T20 format provides a product that may appeal to both broadcasters and advertisers, and it fits nicely with the fast-paced style of American sports. The website of USA Cricket, a platform to develop and promote all forms of cricket in the country, states that immigrants from cricket-playing nations, especially the Caribbean, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, have significantly contributed to the sport’s renewed appeal in the nation.

Although the nation has traditionally had a very robust sports market, with per capita spending on sports higher than in any other country in the globe, cricket’s market has not been properly capitalized on, according to Indranil Blah, founder of AMP Sports & Entertainment.

“If you look at the cricket ecosystem, India is maxed out, England is maxed out, Australia is maxed out. China is another option, but cracking it in China is going to be even more difficult than in the US,” he adds.
