CIK organises major operations in Jammu and Kashmir following terror attack

News Mania / Piyal Chatterjee / 22nd October 2024

According to sources, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir dismantled a new militant group on Tuesday that was thought to be a branch of the outlawed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). According to the officials, the J&K police’s Counter-Intelligence Wing (CIK) carried out a significant operation that involved raids in several districts, including Srinagar, Ganderbal, Bandipora, Kulgam, Budgam, Anantnag, and Pulwama.

The dismantling of ‘Tehreek Labaik Ya Muslim’ (TLM), an organization thought to be a branch of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), is reported by the police. ‘Baba Hamas,’ a terrorist handler from Pakistan, was allegedly running the group, stated officials. They stated that the raids are still in progress and that further information is anticipated.

This anti-terror operation took place the day after the Resistance Front (TRF), another Lashkar group, allegedly claimed responsibility for an attack in the Ganderbal district on Sunday that killed six migrant laborers and a doctor.

Security personnel claim that the attack was planned by Sheikh Sajjad Gul, the head of the TRF and a Srinagar native. According to sources, the gang has traditionally targeted both Kashmiris and non-Kashmiris. The NIA offered a reward of Rs 10 lakh each in 2022 for information that resulted in Gul and three other people being taken into custody.

Two terrorists involved in several attacks in the area were apprehended by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police on October 30 as part of a combined operation. They were identified as Abdul Aziz and Manwar Hussain and were taken from Surankote in the Poonch district.

In recent months, there have been several terror incidents in the Union Territory, some of which have resulted in the deaths of security personnel. Gunfights have also claimed the lives of numerous terrorists.
