News Mania Desk / Piyal Chatterjee / 24th February 2025

Virat Kohli amazed the Dubai audience, hitting his 51st ODI century, while India defeated Pakistan by six wickets. India comfortably chased down 242, finishing the task with 7.3 overs remaining, and have nearly guaranteed their place in the Champions Trophy 2025 semi-finals. Pakistan is facing the possibility of elimination.

Pakistan’s score of 241 was insufficient, as Kohli (100*), Shreyas Iyer (56), and Shubman Gill (46) spearheaded the pursuit. Kuldeep Yadav excelled with the ball, achieving figures of 3/40. India continues to be unbeaten in the ODI format against Pakistan since the 2017 Champions Trophy final, with the current record standing at 6-0 since that game.

India’s batting icon, Virat Kohli delivered another ODI masterpiece as India successfully chased down 242 runs against Pakistan with six wickets remaining in a crucial Champions Trophy match. After India lost an early wicket during the powerplay, Kohli crafted an unbeaten 100 off 111 balls to maintain his team’s momentum, marking his 51st ODI century – the highest by any player in the format. The 36-year-old also surpassed the 14,000 run milestone, becoming just the third batter to achieve this after Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara.

In-form batsman Shubman Gill went on to accumulate 46 runs from 52 balls. India’s centurion in the match against Bangladesh opted for a counter-attack, hitting seven boundaries throughout his innings. Abrar Ahmed finally dismissed the Indian opener by delivering a stunning ball that created a crucial opening. As Gill approached a half-century, Abrar tricked the right-handed batsman with a leg-break that toppled his off-stump.
