At least 60 Palestinians killed in Gaza as Netanyahu vows to ‘finish job’

At least 60 Palestinians were killed in Gaza on Friday as Israeli airstrikes intensified, following Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s vow to “finish the job” during a United Nations address. The majority of the fatalities occurred in Gaza City, where residential neighbourhoods including al-Wehda Street, Shati camp, Nassr, and Remal were hit, leaving civilians scrambling amid the rubble.

Medical sources reported that 13 additional deaths occurred near aid distribution points run by the Gaza Humanitarian Fund, raising concerns over civilian safety in conflict zones. The United Nations noted that airstrikes struck roughly every eight to nine minutes over 24 hours, severely affecting densely populated areas. Hospitals are overwhelmed, with Doctors Without Borders (MSF) suspending some clinics due to nearby tank and aerial operations.

Netanyahu’s speech at the UN criticized countries that recognize a Palestinian state and highlighted Israel’s determination to continue its offensive. He urged Hamas to surrender and release remaining captives, claiming that some of his messages were being transmitted directly into Gaza via loudspeakers or SMS—a claim disputed by Palestinian authorities.

The conflict has intensified the humanitarian crisis, with shortages of food, water, and medical supplies becoming increasingly severe. U.N. humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher described conditions as “desperate,” emphasizing the urgent need for access to aid and protection for civilians. One 17-year-old boy reportedly died from malnutrition and untreated illness in Gaza City, illustrating the human toll of the ongoing hostilities.

The current escalation follows a ground offensive launched on September 16, further raising tensions in the region. International observers have expressed concern over civilian casualties and the mounting pressure on Gaza’s healthcare system. With residential areas under constant threat and medical infrastructure stretched to breaking point, the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate.

The conflict underscores the ongoing volatility between Israel and Hamas, highlighting the urgent need for diplomatic intervention and humanitarian relief to prevent further civilian suffering.
