BSNL is offering 2GB daily data, unlimited calling and more at just Re 1

In India, the weight of a single rupee has always been greater than its monetary value. It is a coin that is placed in a bride’s hand as shagun, an additional sum that is added when giving a gift, and a token that individuals give when starting something new.

This Diwali, BSNL is capitalizing on that symbolism by launching a package that costs just Re 1 and promises to provide new consumers access to the internet. By offering a full month of 4G connectivity for free, BSNL is reducing the barrier to a nominal amount rather than requiring new users to pay several hundred rupees up front. This is all the information you require.

It was introduced as part of its “Diwali Bonanza 2025” promotion and runs from October 15 to November 15. After completing their KYC at a BSNL customer service center or authorized store, new users can leave with a complimentary SIM card activated on this exclusive Re 1 plan. Benefits include 100 SMS every day with a one-month validity period, 2GB of high-speed broadband per day, and unlimited calling across networks. Over the past ten years, commercial companies like Jio, Airtel, and Vi have gradually surpassed BSNL. Although 5G is still a ways off, the operator is still dominant in many rural and semi-urban areas, and its 4G rollout has been slower than anticipated.

It’s interesting to note that BSNL has previously tried similar symbolic pricing approach. The business launched a similar “Freedom Offer” back in August, which helped it surpass Airtel in new subscriber acquisition that month by adding over 1.3 lakh new consumers. Encouraged by that reaction, BSNL appears eager to replicate the strategy over the holiday season, when families tend to spend more and experiment with new offerings.

According to A. Robert J. Ravi, chairman and managing director of BSNL, the initiative will allow customers to “experience BSNL’s indigenously developed 4G network without any cost barrier.” It is hoped that after a month of use, the network’s coverage and dependability will persuade users to stick with regular plans.
