Liverpool put their recent struggles behind them with a resounding 5-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Champions League, delivering a statement win at Deutsche Bank Park. The Reds, who had been enduring a four-match losing streak, showcased a dominant performance to revive their European campaign.
Frankfurt initially took the lead through Rasmus Kristensen in the 26th minute, raising hopes of an upset. However, Liverpool quickly responded, with Hugo Ekitiké—facing his former club—equalizing in the 35th minute. Showing respect for his previous team, Ekitiké refrained from celebrating his goal. Soon after, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté added crucial headers from set-pieces, giving Liverpool a comfortable 3-1 advantage heading into halftime.
The second half saw further dominance from Liverpool. Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai found the net, both assisted by Florian Wirtz, who impressed on his return to Germany. Their efforts sealed the emphatic 5-1 win and highlighted Liverpool’s attacking depth and cohesion.
Despite the convincing scoreline, manager Arne Slot expressed concerns over injuries sustained during the match. Striker Alexander Isak was substituted at halftime due to groin discomfort, while right-back Jeremie Frimpong also left the field with a suspected hamstring issue. Slot cautioned that the team would monitor Isak closely to avoid aggravating his condition.
The victory propelled Liverpool to 10th place in the Champions League standings, earning six points from three matches. With renewed confidence, the team now prepares for their upcoming high-profile clash against Real Madrid on November 4.
Elsewhere in the competition, Chelsea and Bayern Munich also recorded commanding wins, strengthening their positions in the group stages and signaling intense competition as the tournament progresses. Liverpool’s dominant performance marks a crucial turning point in their European campaign, offering hope for a revival after a challenging start.
