Actor-politician Vijay has strongly criticised derogatory comments made against women by Ponraj Vellaichamy, sparking a political controversy in Tamil Nadu. The remarks, allegedly directed at women associated with Vijay’s party, have triggered widespread outrage and renewed debate over political accountability and respect for women in public discourse.
The issue arose after Ponraj Vellaichamy reportedly used offensive language while referring to women members of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). His comments quickly drew criticism from party workers and supporters, many of whom demanded strict action and an apology.
Responding firmly, Vijay described the remarks as unacceptable and disrespectful, particularly towards women participating in politics. He emphasised that such language undermines the dignity of women and should not be tolerated in any form. The TVK leader also took aim at the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), questioning why no action had been taken against the individual responsible.
Vijay further alleged that the silence of the state government reflects a failure to uphold accountability. He urged authorities to act promptly, stating that protecting the dignity and safety of women must remain a priority in a democratic system. His remarks have added momentum to the ongoing political debate, with several TVK members echoing his concerns.
The controversy has also gained traction on social media platforms, where users have expressed anger over the incident and called for stricter standards of conduct in political communication. Many have highlighted the need for respectful dialogue, especially when addressing sensitive issues involving gender.
