Tata Steel reported a strong financial performance for the second quarter of FY2026-27, with its consolidated net profit increasing 16 per cent year-on-year to approximately Rs 3,700 crore. The company’s revenue also recorded double-digit growth, supported by improved operational performance and stronger contributions from its Indian business.

The steel major posted a consolidated profit after tax of Rs 3,699.59 crore for the July-September quarter, compared with Rs 3,183.09 crore in the corresponding period last year. Revenue from operations climbed 11.5 per cent to Rs 65,436.24 crore, against Rs 58,689.29 crore reported in the year-ago quarter.

The company’s consolidated earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) increased 17 per cent year-on-year to Rs 10,665 crore, reflecting improved profitability during the quarter. Tata Steel’s India business remained the biggest contributor to its overall performance. The domestic division generated revenue of Rs 42,653 crore and EBITDA of Rs 10,634 crore. Higher production and deliveries supported the performance of the India division amid changing conditions in the global steel market.

The company’s European operations, however, presented a mixed picture. Its Netherlands business witnessed improvement following the restart of the Direct Sheet Plant, while its UK operations continued to experience challenges arising from weak demand and elevated inventory levels.

In a separate development, Noel Naval Tata, Vice-Chairman and Non-Executive, Non-Independent Director of Tata Steel, is set to retire from the company’s board. His retirement will take effect from November 11, 2026. Noel Tata joined the Tata Steel board in March 2022. The leadership change comes as the company continues to focus on strengthening its operations and expanding its position in the domestic and international steel markets.

The latest Tata Steel Q2 results underline the company’s improved earnings performance, with higher revenue and operating profitability providing support despite continuing challenges in some of its overseas markets.
