Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his Deepavali greetings to people across the country on Saturday, wishing them happiness, peace, prosperity and good health. He also reiterated his commitment to celebrating the festival of lights with personnel of the Indian Armed Forces, continuing a tradition he has followed since becoming Prime Minister in 2014.

In a video message shared on social media, Modi conveyed his wishes to citizens and described Deepavali as a festival that represents the victory of light over darkness. He said the occasion symbolises hope, positivity and the determination to overcome challenges. The Prime Minister expressed his wish that the festival would bring happiness and prosperity to every household.

Modi also spoke about his annual practice of spending Diwali with soldiers serving in different parts of the country. He said celebrating the festival with members of the armed forces was a special experience for him and something he looked forward to every year. The Prime Minister emphasised the importance of acknowledging the sacrifices and dedication of military personnel who remain on duty to protect the nation, even during major festivals.

Since 2014, Modi has marked Deepavali by visiting military installations and meeting soldiers deployed in different regions. Over the years, he has celebrated the festival with personnel stationed along India’s borders, including in strategically important and difficult terrains. These visits have become a regular feature of his annual Diwali engagements.

The Prime Minister’s interactions with soldiers during the festival are intended to recognise their contribution to national security and boost the morale of those serving away from their families. His visits have also provided opportunities to interact with personnel, exchange greetings and acknowledge the challenges associated with military service.

Earlier, Modi also met Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan and exchanged Deepavali greetings with him. The meeting was part of the Prime Minister’s festive engagements as political leaders and public representatives conveyed their wishes to people across the country. Deepavali, one of India’s most widely celebrated festivals, is traditionally associated with the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.
