Special Session with Dr. P K Hazra, Director & Head Cardiology Specialist, Manipal Hospitals held on 24.03.26 at MCCI

Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce & Industry organised a Special Session on ‘Healthy Heart – How to save it in case of crisis, with CPR support system’ with Dr. P. K. Hazra, Director & Head Cardiology Specialist, Manipal Hospitals TODAY (24 March 2026) at 4 pm at MCCI Conference Hall.
 
MCCI and Manipal Hospitals organised a Basic Life Support (BLS) Teaching by certified Trainers; Hands on training on Mannequins; Certificate of Participation; Manipal Health Card Distribution and Hospital Kit. The training comprised of Compression-only Life Support (COLS) for cardiopulmonary resuscitation by layperson outside the hospital.
 
Certificates were given to those who completed the training.
 
Dr. P. K. Hazra said that he had many first time medical achievements in Eastern India such as first knifeless heart valve replacement. He suggested that obese persons should try to lose weight as they require more pressure during CPR. For healthy heart, diabetic patients should be careful and cholesterol is a major reason for heart attack. Any severe pain below neck can be serious problem with heart. Healthy life style and exercise can reduce the chance of heart attack.   
 
He pointed out that those who lead a good lifestyle will continue to get a dopamine hit (pleasure sensation) longer than those who do not lead a good lifestyle. These good hormones can get exhausted but the brain knows how to preserve good hormones.
 
Dr. Hazra spoke about 30 years of MedTech innovation in India and he said that India is today a hub for manufacturing heart valves.
 
With regard to CPR, he said that if someone loses consciousness, then the person deserves another chance which is given through CPR. Both laser therapy and shock therapy are used for the treatment of heart condition. Today, in heart implants no metal is involved.
 
Earlier, Shri Rajendra Khandelwal, Chairman, Council on Health & Wellness, MCCI in his Welcome Address said that according to the World Heart Foundation, up to 80% per cent of heart attacks and strokes can be prevented by lifestyle management by maintaining a balanced diet, physical exercise, managing stress and quitting smoking.
 
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR is an emergency, lifesaving procedure performed when the heart stops beating due to cardiac arrest.
 
The session ended with a hearty Vote of thanks proposed by Shri Anil Kumar Malawat, Co-Chairman, Council on Health & Wellness, MCCI.
