Investigators have made significant progress in the rape and murder of a 22-year-old daughter of a senior IRS officer in Delhi by identifying the person Rahul Meena, the accused, was talking to as he fled the scene. CCTV footage showed Rahul leaving the Amar Colony home while talking on the phone nonstop. According to his mother, he was talking to his Delhi-based cousin Trilok.
According to the family, Rahul told him: “Maine Delhi mein kaand kar diya hai, main ab marne wala hoon police mujhe pakad legi” (I have committed a crime in Delhi. I may die now. The police will catch me soon).
He reportedly denied rape in Alwar during the same call, saying he had merely gone there to get his cell phone and had not hurt the victim. The accused targeted two victims in different states in a matter of hours, according to investigators.
Rahul allegedly broke into a neighbor’s home in Alwar, Rajasthan, on Tuesday night at around 10.30 p.m. and sexually assaulted his friend’s wife. If she talked about the incident, he allegedly threatened to kill her and her family. The survivor’s complaint led to the filing of a formal complaint.
He traveled almost 200 km to Delhi in a matter of hours, arriving at a posh community in the Kailash Hills of southeast Delhi at 6.30 am. The second victim, an engineering graduate and the daughter of an IRS officer, was at home by herself at the time.
At at 6:39 in the morning, Rahul went into the home of his former boss. According to the police, he assaulted her within the apartment. She was lying in a pool of blood and the house had been looted when her parents got home from the gym at around eight in the morning. Rahul gained access by using his knowledge of the house’s layout and security measures, according to the authorities. He allegedly stormed into the victim’s study, hit her with a lamp and another heavy object, and then strangled her.
He may have sexually abused her while she was unconscious, according to police. He hauled her body downstairs from the rooftop study area, tried to use her finger to enter a locker, and then used tools to break it open. After stealing money and jewelry, he changed out of his bloodstained clothing and put on the victim’s brother’s clothes before running away.
The cause of death was revealed to be strangulation by the autopsy performed at AIIMS Delhi. A violent struggle was indicated by the report’s numerous abrasions, contusions, and nose fracture. Confirmation of sexual assault is awaiting analysis, and forensic samples have been saved.
CCTV video from the housing society and neighboring regions was used by Delhi Police to trace Rahul. Around 6.28 a.m., he was observed entering the complex wearing a yellow shirt and black pants. He left at 7.22 a.m. wearing a different outfit and carrying a backpack.
After he left the area, investigators located the autorickshaw he got into. Rahul had checked into a hotel in Dwarka, which the driver guided the police to.More than Rs 1 lakh in cash and jewelry that were purportedly taken from the victim’s home were found by police in the hotel room. The money that had been stolen had been used to pay for the room. In a matter of hours, he was taken into custody by the police. He would be brought to reconstruct the crime scenes in Delhi and Alwar, according to the officers.
According to investigators, Rahul borrowed money from multiple people and was highly interested in online betting, using adolescent patti and other gaming apps. The people who provided him money are currently being identified by the police.
Alwar went there to get his phone after losing money in a game, according to family members who related the incident to a fight over money and a cell phone. Investigators are looking into a more comprehensive financial and behavioral motivation, though. Before being fired due to his financial irregularities and betting habits, Rahul had been employed as a domestic helper at the victim’s home for about a year.
