Campaigning Heats Up for Second Phase of West Bengal Assembly Election 2026

Kolkata, April 26: Campaigning for the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly Election 2026 has gained momentum across the state, with major political parties holding rallies, roadshows and public meetings to attract voters.
Senior BJP leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address several rallies today in support of party candidates, adding more energy to the party’s election campaign.
On Friday, senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed an election rally at Jamalpur in Purba Bardhaman. He said that if the BJP comes to power in West Bengal, it will implement the Uniform Civil Code in the state. He also promised to introduce the Seventh Pay Commission and allow women to travel free on state-run buses. Later in the day, Shah addressed another rally at Shyampur in Howrah and also took part in roadshows at Ramrajatala and Tollygunge. Senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh also campaigned in Hooghly district, where he addressed rallies at Goghat and Arambagh. He said that women would be given financial assistance of Rs 3,000 per month if the BJP forms the government in the state. He also promised that vacant government posts would be filled.

J. P. Nadda campaigned at Raina, while Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath addressed a rally at Bagda in North 24 Parganas. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma joined a roadshow at Arambagh, and BJP President Nitin Nabin took part in a roadshow at Baranagar.
On the other side, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee addressed a public meeting at Uttarpara. She said that she had fought in the Supreme Court and succeeded in restoring 32 lakh deleted names to the voters’ list. She later joined a roadshow at Birati and a padyatra in Bhabanipur.
TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee, while speaking at Basirhat, accused the Centre of holding back funds meant for the development of West Bengal.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi addressed meetings at Serampore, Metiabruz and Shahid Minar. During his campaign, he criticised both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
With top leaders from the BJP, TMC and Congress reaching out to voters across different parts of the state, the political battle for the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly Election 2026 has become more intense.
