Ranchi : A seven-year-old boy from Jharkhand has entered the record books by becoming the youngest swimmer to cross the Palk Strait, the narrow waterway separating India and Sri Lanka.
Ishank Singh, a resident of Ranchi, completed the challenging 29-kilometre open water swim on Friday, covering the distance between Talaimannar in Sri Lanka and Arichalmunai in Dhanushkodi, India. The young swimmer accomplished this remarkable feat in 9 hours and 50 minutes, beginning his journey at 4:00 AM and finishing at 1:50 PM.
The Palk Strait is notorious for its treacherous conditions, including powerful ocean currents, strong sea waves, and highly unpredictable weather patterns. These factors make it one of the most challenging open water swimming routes in the world, even for adult athletes with years of training and experience.
Despite these formidable obstacles, young Ishank demonstrated exceptional determination, skill, and mental strength throughout the grueling swim. His achievement has drawn widespread praise from the swimming community and the public alike.
Upon completing the swim and stepping onto the sandy shores of Rameswaram, Ishank was warmly received by officials, supporters, and well-wishers who had gathered to celebrate his historic accomplishment.
