West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday announced a series of major decisions taken during the state cabinet’s first meeting, including approval for the transfer of land to the Border Security Force for fencing along the Bangladesh border.

According to the Chief Minister, the land transfer process will begin immediately and is expected to be completed within 45 days. The cabinet also approved implementation of the Centre’s flagship Ayushman Bharat health scheme along with several other Union government initiatives in the state.

The government further cleared a proposal extending the age limit for school job applicants by five years, a promise made during the election campaign. In addition, the cabinet empowered the Chief Secretary to facilitate central government training programmes for officers belonging to national and state cadres.

Adhikari also stated that the cabinet had decided to implement the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in the state and move forward with the June 2025 Census-related directives issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
