Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday acknowledged problems in the Central Board of Secondary Education’s newly introduced On-Screen Marking (OSM) system and assured students that all discrepancies would be resolved promptly. His remarks came amid widespread complaints from students and parents regarding errors and technical glitches in the Class 12 evaluation and re-evaluation process.
Speaking after a meeting with senior CBSE officials in New Delhi, Pradhan said he was taking full responsibility for the issues that surfaced during the implementation of the digital evaluation system. He emphasized that the government remained committed to ensuring fairness, transparency, and accuracy in the examination process.
The controversy erupted after several students reported problems such as blurred scanned copies of answer sheets, unchecked responses, delays in accessing evaluated papers, payment failures during re-evaluation applications, and repeated portal crashes. Many students took to social media to express frustration and raise concerns about the reliability of the new system.
Pradhan defended the OSM system, describing it as a modern and student-friendly method that aligns with international evaluation standards. According to the minister, the board handled nearly 98 lakh answer sheets and around 40 crore scanned pages for approximately 17 lakh students who appeared for the Class 12 examinations this year.
To address the ongoing concerns, the Education Ministry has sought technical assistance from experts at IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur to review and improve the system’s digital infrastructure. The CBSE has also initiated steps to streamline online payment systems and improve portal performance for students applying for re-evaluation or verification. The Education Ministry stated that corrective measures were already underway and promised greater transparency in the evaluation process to restore confidence among students and parents.
