Gopiballavpur Police Organize Awareness Camp in Purnapani to Curb Child Marriage and Cyber ​​Fraud

Jhargram: The Gopiballavpur police are continuously conducting public awareness campaigns aimed at eradicating the social evil of child marriage and curbing rising cybercrimes. As part of this initiative, an awareness camp on child marriage and cyber fraud was organized on Saturday in Purnapani—a tribal-dominated village under the Kendugadi Gram Panchayat of Gopiballavpur-I block—under the leadership of the Station House Officer (SHO/IC), Ajay Kumar Singh.

At the camp, police officials informed villagers—particularly women and the youth—about the social, health-related, and legal consequences of child marriage. They explained that child marriage is not merely a social evil but also a punishable offense under the law. Officials urged the public to immediately inform the police or the administration if they received information regarding the marriage of a minor boy or girl.

In light of rising cybercrimes, the program also covered measures to prevent online fraud. The police advised villagers against sharing OTPs, ATM PINs, bank account details, or other personal information with strangers; they also warned against clicking on suspicious links and urged caution regarding fake calls and QR code scans. Furthermore, they emphasized the importance of immediately lodging a complaint at the police station or via the cyber helpline if one falls victim to any form of cyber fraud.

Sub-Inspector Sheikh Sarfaraz Nawaz of Gopiballavpur police station, along with other police personnel, attended the event. Officials answered the villagers’ queries and emphasized the need for mutual cooperation between the police and the general public to build a safe and informed society.

Appreciating this police initiative, the villagers of Purnapani stated that such awareness camps should be organized regularly. They noted that this would help curb social evils like child marriage, raise awareness about cyber fraud, and make society safer.
