Iran Threatens Unrestricted Retaliation if Attacked Again as Diplomatic Efforts Continue

Iran has warned that any fresh military attack against the country would trigger an unrestricted retaliatory response, as diplomatic efforts led by regional mediators continue to prevent another escalation in the conflict involving Tehran and the United States. The warning comes amid heightened tensions over Iran’s nuclear programme, economic sanctions and control of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has instructed the country’s armed forces to maintain a high level of military preparedness and respond immediately to any new aggression. Iranian officials have indicated that retaliation would not necessarily be limited to a particular geographical area, raising concerns about the possibility of a wider regional confrontation.

Meanwhile, Qatar has stepped up its diplomatic engagement with Tehran in an attempt to bring the opposing sides back to negotiations. Senior Qatari diplomats held discussions with Iranian officials in Tehran on Friday, exploring possibilities for reducing tensions and establishing conditions for a diplomatic settlement.

Washington has also reportedly renewed its diplomatic outreach to Iran. US Vice-President JD Vance sent a letter to Iranian security official ohsen Rezaei, seeking assurances regarding Tehran’s nuclear activities. The communication reportedly addressed international inspections and the status of Iran’s highly enriched uranium stockpile, which remains a major concern for Western governments.

Iran, however, has laid out several conditions before agreeing to resume negotiations. These include the removal of the US naval blockade on Iranian ports, relief from oil-related sanctions and an end to military hostilities across the region. Tehran has maintained that diplomatic discussions cannot make meaningful progress while economic and military pressure continues.

The Strait of Hormuz remains another major point of disagreement.  Iranian military spokesman Mohammad Akraminia warned that another American attack could expand the conflict across a much wider geographical area. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also cautioned that countries participating in military operations against Iran could face serious consequences.

The confrontation has raised concerns about its potential impact on international energy markets and regional stability. Iranian officials have criticised European governments over rising energy costs, while American lawmakers have expressed reservations about the possibility of renewed military action. US Senator Chris Murphy warned that further strikes could lead to a dangerous escalation. Nuclear security expert Eric Brewer also questioned whether additional airstrikes would effectively address concerns surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme
