The Directorate General Resettlement (DGR), through its Directorate of Resettlement Zone (East), organised a DGR and Corporate HR Conclave in Kolkata on September 11 to strengthen cooperation between the Armed Forces, the resettlement organisation and the corporate sector for expanding employment opportunities for ex-servicemen.
The conclave was held at the Army Officers Institute (AOI), Vijay Durg, and brought together representatives from around 40 leading corporate houses and industry organisations. Participants included representatives of Ambuja Cements, Royal Bengal ITC, Taj Group, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), BNCCI, PwC and BNI, along with senior Army officials and DGR representatives.
The event provided a platform for corporate representatives and stakeholders involved in the resettlement of former service personnel to discuss ways of improving their transition into civilian careers. Presentations highlighted the professional skills and experience acquired by ex-servicemen during their military careers.
Air Vice Marshal AR Shendye delivered the keynote address at the conclave. This was followed by a detailed presentation by Brigadier Saumya Banerjee, Sena Medal and Bar, of the Directorate of Resettlement Zone (East). The presentation highlighted the contribution of ex-servicemen to the nation and outlined their potential as a skilled human resource for the corporate sector.
The conclave also sought to familiarise corporate human resources leaders with various DGR initiatives aimed at supporting ex-servicemen after their military service. These include employment facilitation measures, skill development programmes and reorientation initiatives designed to assist personnel in transitioning to second careers.
The interaction emphasised the importance of stronger public-private partnerships in creating sustainable employment opportunities for ex-servicemen. The organisers said closer engagement between the corporate sector and the resettlement ecosystem can help bridge the gap between former armed forces personnel and civilian employment, while enabling companies to benefit from their professional experience and skills.
