In Delhi’s Winter Pollution Plan, parking fees will double and offices will work from home

As the nation’s capital prepares for the winter season, when air quality has historically been poor, the Delhi administration has revealed plans to reduce air pollution three months in advance. Parking fees will be doubled, building and demolition activities will be completely prohibited, and government and private employees will be able to work from home.

On November 1st, the new parking prices will take effect. Additionally, office hours will be staggered from November 1 through February 28, 2027. Office hours under this scheme are 8.30 am to 5 pm for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and 10 am to 6.30 pm for the Delhi government.

From November 1 to February 28, 2027, 50% of employees in government and private offices will work from home. According to the authorities, dust-producing building and demolition operations are prohibited for a specific number of weeks during this time.

Delhi has made several choices throughout the years to combat wintertime air pollution. In order to lower emissions and pollutants, it contained the odd-even policy, which let cars with odd and even numbers to operate on the roads alternately.

However, in addition to vehicle emissions, dust, industry, and other sources account for a large portion of Delhi’s pollution. Some of the reasons of Delhi’s wintertime air pollution have been identified as farm fires, such as crop residue burning in neighboring Punjab and Haryana.
