Karan Johar Announces Koffee With Karan Season 9 as Final Season, Premiere Date Revealed

Filmmaker and television host Karan Johar has announced that the upcoming ninth season of Koffee With Karan will be the final edition of the long-running celebrity chat show. The new season is scheduled to premiere on JioHotstar on October 14, bringing the programme’s 22-year run to an end.

Johar made the announcement through an emotional video reflecting on the show’s journey since its launch in 2004. Over eight seasons, the programme has featured several leading names from the Hindi film industry and become known for its informal celebrity conversations, rapid-fire rounds and candid exchanges.

According to Johar, the idea for the show came to him in 2004 when he told his father that he wanted to host a celebrity talk show. The first episode was shot on August 16 that year, marking the beginning of a programme that would eventually become one of Indian television’s most recognisable celebrity formats.

The show has completed eight seasons and 161 episodes over the years. It initially aired on Star World before moving to streaming platforms. Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol were the guests on the first episode, setting the tone for a format centred on conversations with actors and other prominent personalities.

Johar said the decision to end the show was not easy, but he now wants to focus more on filmmaking. He expressed his intention to spend the coming years directing more films and exploring new stories rather than continuing with the chat show. The guest lineup for the final season has not been officially confirmed in full. However, reports have mentioned names including Ahaan Panday, Aneet Padda, Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna among those linked to the upcoming episodes.
