Africa’s richest man, Nigerian industrialist Aliko Dangote, is partnering with Ethiopian Investment Holdings on a $660 million petroleum-products pipeline linking Ethiopia and Djibouti. The 120-kilometre Damarjog-Dewele project will connect coastal storage facilities in Djibouti with inland storage and distribution facilities in Ethiopia.The infrastructure is expected to improve fuel transportation, reduce logistics bottlenecks and strengthen Ethiopia’s energy security. Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said the pipeline could significantly shorten fuel transportation times, while supporting sectors including aviation, agriculture, manufacturing, construction and transportationFor Djibouti, the project is expected to increase port activity, trade volumes and employment while reinforcing its role as a regional logistics hub. The project also includes substantial storage capacity at both ends of the corridor. The investment reflects Dangote Group’s broader strategy of developing African industrial and energy infrastructure and promoting greater regional economic integration.
