Dr. Karan Singh, A Leading Congressman, Discusses The Chola King Rajaraja Scandal
Veteran Congressman Dr. Karan Singh blasted attempts to draw divisions between Shaivism, Vaishanavism, and Shaktism on October 7, calling it completely ludicrous to claim that King Rajaraja I of the Chola dynasty was not a Hindu.
In a statement released on October 7, Dr. Karan Singh compared stating Rajaraj Chola was a Shaivite rather than a Hindu to saying someone is a Catholic but not a Christian.
He emphasized that Shiva is the original Hindu deity, the object of millions of people’s intense devotion for millennia, from Srinagar to Rameshwaram and that the emperor constructed one of the greatest Shiva temples, which are architectural wonders, particularly the magnificent Brihadishwara Temple in Thanjavur.
According to Dr. Singh, while the term Hindu may have gained popularity later, deities like Shiva, Vishnu, Hanuman, Ganesha, Mahalakshmi, and Mahakali have all been a part of what is now known as Sanatan Dharma for thousands of years.
Dr. Singh was responding to a recent issue that started when Tamil director Vetrimaaran asserted during a gathering that Rajaraja Chola was being attempted to adopt a Hindu identity.
Academically accomplished, Banaras Hindu University’s chancellor for three terms until 2018 was Karan Singh.
