A Chinese man captures his mind-boggling trip to work in a popular video: ‘Feels below sea level.’

A man in Chongqing, China, recently released a timelapse video of his unique everyday journey, polarizing the internet. The animation, which depicts the city’s multilayered urban structure, has piqued viewers’ interest and generated controversy.The video begins with the man yawning and getting ready for his day.

With an overlay text stating “How deep does the commute go in Chongqing?” he sets out on a journey that appears to be straight out of a maze.He begins by descending an unending flight of steps, going through a residential neighborhood, a bustling market, and crowded streets. Just as the audience thinks he’s there, he proclaims, “Now I’m gonna take the subway,” before descending another six flights of stairs.

The trip does not end there. The man passes past several residential structures before reaching at his office. The maze-like journey highlights Chongqing’s distinct architectural layers, which are known for their vertical architecture and compact urban planning.The video, posted to X (previously Twitter) with the title, “Man shows how far down he has to go to get to work in Chongqing, China,” has received over 2.6 million views and thousands of reactions.

One user wrote, “This is both intriguing and exhausting to watch. “Imagine doing this every day.” One person said, “Living in Chongqing must feel like being in an endless video game level.”

Some praised the city’s sophisticated infrastructure, calling it “an urban wonder.” Others echoed their anxiety, with one person adding, “This trip feels like a nightmare. “What if the lift breaks down?” Another said, “It’s cool until you realize how much effort is required on a daily basis!”

Several viewers couldn’t resist mocking, with one saying, “This is why Chongqing people are so fit!” Another person commented, “Is he commuting to work or training for a marathon?”
