A Delhi Man Loses Rs. 50 Lakh After Receiving Missed Calls

Never divulge your OTP to anyone. Cybercrime officials frequently distribute this warning to the public to alert them to online scams that involve requests for one-time passwords (OTPs) via phone call, text message, or email. What if we told you that you can still become imprisoned even if you don’t share your OTP? A man from Delhi lost Rs 50 lakh in a recent cyber fraud due to unreturned calls. Notably, the scammers executed several transactions across the victim’s numerous accounts without even asking him for an OTP.

According to reports, a south Delhi-based security services director lost Rs 50 lakh to online fraud. The victim, according to a TOI report, received numerous missed and blank calls on his cell phone between 7 pm and 8.45 pm a few days ago. Some of the calls he answered, but none of them were answered when he picked up the phone. The victim was astonished to find notifications of Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS), or real-time settlement of financial transactions when he checked his cell phone to check for messages after a while.

The investigation into the matter indicates that Jamtara in Jharkhand may be where it is based. The allegations imply that the person who received the entire amount of false funds in their account rented out their accounts to scammers in exchange for a commission.

The Jamtara scam is frequently associated with online frauds in which scammers located in Jamtara city solicit victims to download screen-mirroring programs so they can steal sensitive information such as bank account numbers, passwords, one-time passwords (OTPs), and other financial details. Police believe that the fraudster may have performed a SIM swap in a recent case as well. To initiate the RTGS transfer and activate the OTP, blank or missed calls were placed. It’s possible that the scammers heard about OTP in the IVR of subsequent contact.
