A Look Back At Previous Recipients Of The Coveted International Award As Annie Ernaux Is Awarded The 2022 Nobel Prize In Literature

Annie Ernaux has been given the 2022 Nobel Prize in Literature. Awarded annually for excellent literary achievement, the famous worldwide prize was first presented in 1901 by members of Swedish learned institutions. According to NobelPrize.org, Sully Prudhomme was the first recipient, “in particular honor of his poetry creation, which offers proof of lofty idealism, creative perfection, and a rare synthesis of both heart and mind traits.” It’s interesting to note that between 1901 and 2021, 118 Nobel Prize winners received the Nobel Prize in Literature 114 times for a body of work as opposed to a single work. 1. Abdulrazak Gurnah, a Tanzanian novelist, received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2021 for his unflinching and sympathetic exploration of colonialism’s legacy and the plight of the refugee amid the chasm between cultures and continents.
2. The 2020 Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to American poet Louise Gluck. The panel determined that Louise Glück was the winner because of her distinctive lyrical voice, which, with austere beauty, renders individual existence universal.
3. Peter Handke received the 2019 Nobel Prize in Literature for a significant work that, through linguistic brilliance, has investigated the periphery and particularity of human experience.  
4. Olga Tokarczuk, a Polish author, received the 2018 Nobel Prize in Literature for her imaginative narratives that, with encyclopedic enthusiasm, depict the crossing of boundaries as a way of life.
5. Kazuo Ishiguro, a Japanese-American author, has revealed the chasm underlying our illusory sense of interconnectedness with the world in his novels, according to the Nobel panel. He was awarded the 2017 Nobel Prize for Literature.
6. Bob Dylan, an American singer-songwriter, received the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature for creating new creative interpretations within the great American song tradition.
7. Svetlana Alexievich received the 2015 Nobel Prize in Literature for her polyphonic poems, which stand as a testament to modern bravery and sorrow.
8. Patrick Modiano received the 2014 Nobel Prize in Literature for his use of the art of memory to summon the most impossible human fates and reveal the life-world of the occupation.
9. Alice Munro won the 2013 Nobel Prize in Literature. She is the maestro of the modern short tale, according to the jury’s verdict
10. The Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to Chinese author Mo Yan in 2012. The Swedish Academy claims that the author of hallucinogenic realism combines folklore, history, and the present.
