A Senior Army Officer Discusses Regaining Pok

On November 22, a senior army general responded to Rajnath Singh’s recent statement suggesting that Pakistan’s illegally seized portions of Kashmir should be reclaimed, emphasizing that there is already a legislative resolution on the matter and that it is nothing new.

“As far as the Indian Army is concerned, it will follow any directives issued by the Indian government. Always prepared for it” the general officer commanding-in-chief of the Northern Command, Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi, was quoted by the news agency ANI.

He was responding to Rajnath Singh’s remarks during an infantry day event on October 27 in Srinagar, where he said that Pakistani troops were infringing on the human rights of Kashmiris and that Islamabad will eventually be held accountable.

The minister added that the Narendra Modi administration is dedicated to implementing the 1994 Parliamentary resolution calling for the return of Kashmiri territory that is illegally occupied by Pakistan.

Dwivedi, on the other hand, claimed that there were currently about 300 terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, with an additional 160 waiting for a chance to cross the LoC and infiltrate India.

However, he pointed out that there had been a significant shift in the security situation in the former state, which had become a union territory when the Modi government repealed Article 370, and that terrorist activity had been mostly under control. He praised local government representatives for promoting growth and peace while battling terrorism.
